A rural Mountain Home man has been arrested on charges of issuing fraudulent refunds to his personal credit card while employed at a local business.
Mark Joseph Powell, 55, was charged following an investigation by the Mountain Home Police Department and the business involved, Marchant Building Supply. According to a probable cause affidavit, the company launched an internal investigation after its auditing firm flagged suspicious refunds to a single credit card. The refunds, totaling nearly $22,000, were made between October 2024 and August 5, 2025, but were not tied to any actual sales transactions.
Security footage obtained from the store reportedly showed Powell at the register at the times when the transactions occurred. During an interview with investigators, Powell admitted to making the fraudulent refunds.
Powell is now facing two felony charges: theft of property exceeding $5,000 but less than $25,000, and fraudulent use of a credit card in the same amount range. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of falsifying business records.
Powell was released after posting a $20,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
