Walnut Ridge, Ark. - A local business in Walnut Ridge has organized a community initiative to help residents stay warm during the colder months. The Farm Service Tire Center has launched its first-ever coat drive, running now through December 21.
The drive, spearheaded by store manager Matt Wood, offers a straightforward way for individuals to either donate or receive coats free of charge. A red donation bin has been placed inside the store, where community members can drop off coats or request one in a needed size.
In addition to coat donations, some residents have contributed financially to expand the effort. This allows the tire center to help individuals find properly fitting coats by accompanying them to purchase one locally, free of charge.
“We’ll go down, walk through Walmart with them, get them fixed up, and they won’t have to be out a dime,” Wood explained, adding that there’s no need for anyone to feel uncomfortable about seeking help. “We’re just here to help and contribute back to the community.”
Wood shared that the inspiration for the coat drive came after witnessing a local need. He expressed hope that other businesses in Walnut Ridge and the surrounding area might follow suit by creating similar programs to assist those in need.
“In today’s world, in this economy and today, we need more people to step up and help out,” said Wood. “We need more people to contribute and help others instead of running each other down and doing us.”
The Farm Service Tire Center’s coat drive remains open to anyone in need of winter clothing or those who wish to donate a warm coat to a neighbor.
For more information or assistance, residents are encouraged to visit the Farm Service Tire Center in Walnut Ridge before December 21.
