A Norfork woman pleaded guilty earlier this month to charges stemming from two assaults, including one in which two young children were present. Kelly Ellen Yaklin, 44, received a sentence of 10 years' probation after appearing in Baxter County Circuit Court on October 12.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Yaklin attacked her boyfriend, who suffered minor injuries. Following that incident, she broke into a neighboring apartment, where she assaulted a woman as the victim was preparing to take a shower. The neighbor reportedly sustained multiple visible minor injuries, and her two young children were present during the incident.
Authorities who responded to the scene noted that Yaklin appeared intoxicated, with a strong smell of alcohol, slurred speech, and bloodshot, watery eyes. The affidavit did not provide information regarding the motive for the attacks or the nature of the relationship between Yaklin and the individuals involved.
Yaklin was charged with residential burglary, battery, two counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, criminal mischief, and public intoxication. She had been free on a $7,500 bond prior to entering her guilty plea.
The case concludes with Yaklin under close supervision as part of her probation sentence.
