JONESBORO, Ark. — Arkansas State University will host a free Halloween Art Bash and trunk-or-treat event on Friday, Oct. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Windgate Hall of Art and Innovation.

The public is invited to participate in a range of family-friendly activities, including a haunted house in Windgate’s new gallery, student-created art installations, and Halloween-themed crafts. Costumes are encouraged, and treats will be available for younger visitors through the trunk-or-treat.

The event is a collaboration between A-State’s Art + Design department and College of Engineering and Computer Science, along with other campus organizations. Caitlan Smith, an art history instructor, emphasized the variety of offerings, including 3D-printed giveaways created by computer science students, interactive inflatable art pieces crafted by design students, and wall displays showcasing student creativity and teamwork. “We will have interactive inflatables produced by art students, with one you can even walk into,” Smith added.

Visitors will also see contributions from other programs. Radiology students will present X-ray projects in the Spooky Lab, the College of Veterinary Medicine will display animal skeletons, and the Arkansas State Museum will feature vintage Halloween postcards from the 19th and 20th centuries. Fortune-telling will add to the festive atmosphere.

Arts and crafts activities are planned for all ages, including painting rock monsters, coloring pages, and face painting. The first 50 attendees will also have the opportunity to paint tote bags. Martha Molina, a visiting Día de los Muertos artist from the Bradbury Art Museum, will teach participants how to make paper flowers.

Children can collect candy, temporary tattoos, and buttons during the trunk-or-treat portion of the event, ensuring plenty of fun for younger visitors.
