Local sheriff’s departments across North Arkansas are participating in National Drug Take Back Day this Saturday, providing designated drop-off locations for residents to safely dispose of unused or expired medications.
In Izard County, two drop-off boxes will be available. One is located at the Sheriff’s Office in Melbourne, and the other can be found at the substation in Horseshoe Bend. Fulton County residents can make use of a drop box at the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, located on Highway 9 North in Salem.
For Sharp County residents, a secure drop-off site has been set up at the Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, situated behind the courthouse in Ash Flat. Additionally, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office will host a drop box at the Detention Center at 501 West Elm Street in Walnut Ridge.
National Drug Take Back Day is an initiative led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to encourage the safe disposal of prescription medications and reduce potential drug misuse. Local law enforcement agencies partner with the DEA to provide these accessible drop-off opportunities for the public.
Residents are advised to check with their local sheriff’s department for any specific guidelines regarding the disposal process. Items like liquids and syringes are typically not accepted. For more information, visit the DEA’s official website or contact your county sheriff’s office.
