Sam Heughan, widely known for his role as Jamie Fraser in the long-running series *Outlander*, is set to star in a new television drama alongside Academy Award-winner Viola Davis. The series, titled *Ascent*, is being developed for Paramount+ and is described as a character-driven thriller.

*Ascent* follows Davis’ character, Catriona, a corporate fixer renowned for her ability to navigate high-stakes crises for billion-dollar clients. The series takes a personal turn as Catriona uses her sharp and ruthless skills to protect her estranged daughter, whose safety has come under threat. Heughan will portray Conal, described as a top agent at Ascent Ventures. Conal, noted for his social cunning and ruthlessness, approaches his work with lethal charm and a thrill for completing challenging missions.

The series was created by John Logan, who will also serve as showrunner. Davis is not only starring in the project but will also have an executive producer role through her production company, JuVee Productions. Production on *Ascent* is scheduled to begin in Los Angeles next year.

The announcement marks Heughan’s first major role since wrapping the eighth and final season of *Outlander* earlier this year, where he earned global recognition for his portrayal of the Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser. Davis, whose extensive acting accolades include an Academy Award for *Fences*, a Primetime Emmy for *How to Get Away with Murder,* and multiple Screen Actors Guild Awards, adds another high-profile project to her already illustrious career with *Ascent*.
