The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH) reported minimal flu activity for the week ending October 17, with influenza-like illness activity rated at 1 out of 13.

According to the ADH's weekly viral respiratory diseases report, 126 cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza were documented during the week. Of these, 111 were identified as Flu A+, while 13 were Flu B+. No cases tested positive for both Flu A and B.

Since the start of the flu season on October 4, 253 cumulative cases of influenza have been reported statewide, with 46 resulting in hospitalization.

The department noted that no outbreaks of influenza have been reported in nursing homes or other congregate living settings this season. The average absenteeism rate among public schools last week was 7.1%.

The ADH continues to monitor flu activity as the season progresses and encourages proper hygiene and vaccination to help prevent the spread of the virus.
