Entergy has been awarded $13.7 million in federal funding to modernize the power grid in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The U.S. Department of Energy will provide the funds to implement advanced transmission technology to improve electricity flow across existing infrastructure.
According to Entergy, the initiative will utilize dynamic line rating technology across more than 1,000 miles of transmission lines in the three states. This technology is designed to increase the amount of electricity that can safely move through power lines, enhancing reliability and efficiency.
The project targets 1,125 miles of existing transmission lines, particularly in areas experiencing rising electricity demand due to new facilities, industrial operations, manufacturing projects, and data centers. Entergy stated that the upgrades are expected to boost electrical transfer capacity by at least 25% and alleviate grid congestion. This increase in capacity could support industrial growth and may potentially reduce energy costs for customers.
Importantly, the upgrades will use the existing transmission infrastructure, eliminating the need for new power line construction. Entergy emphasized that the project will not affect customers' electricity bills.
Officials said the improvements aim to meet the needs of rapidly expanding industries while enhancing grid resilience across the region.
