A Maynard woman has been convicted of exploiting an endangered or impaired adult, according to Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin.
Amanda Patton, 46, pleaded guilty on Oct. 19 to one count of abuse of an endangered or impaired adult, classified as a Class B felony. Griffin announced the conviction on Wednesday.
Patton was sentenced to 72 months in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Additionally, she received an 84-month suspended imposition of sentence, under the condition that she pay restitution to the victim.
Griffin explained that Patton, acting as the victim’s power of attorney, misused more than $84,000 of the victim’s personal funds. The money was spent on purchases including multiple vehicles, recreational equipment, and various personal items.
“This length of sentence reinforces our unwavering commitment to protecting Arkansans and holding those who exploit our vulnerable population accountable,” Griffin stated. He also commended Special Agent Laura Glover and Assistant Attorney General Corinne Kwapis from the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for their contributions to the case, alongside Third Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder.
The announcement underscores the state’s focus on combating exploitation of vulnerable populations. Arkansans are encouraged to report potential cases of abuse or financial exploitation to state authorities.
