The Baxter County Airport is set to host the Run the Runway 5K on Saturday, offering a unique experience for runners and walkers of all levels. The event, which begins at 7:30 a.m., allows participants to traverse a course typically reserved for air traffic, providing an up-close look at the airport facilities.

Timed by Pirate Perry Events and professionally managed by Paul Gigliotti, the race is open to serious runners, casual joggers, and even parents with strollers. Entry includes a race t-shirt, snacks, and award medals for top finishers. Awards will also be distributed across nine age divisions ranging from 10 years old to 70 and older.

Participants can pre-register online for $25, while same-day registration will be available for $30. Registrants can find a QR code for sign-ups on posters around Mountain Home, or visit the event's Facebook page for more details.

Lisa House, Baxter County Justice of the Peace for District 6, along with Gerald Gaige of the Baxter County Airport and Bill Holland, President of Chapter 775 of the Experimental Aircraft Association, emphasized the event’s community-focused spirit. Proceeds from the 5K will benefit the Leading Edge Aviation Foundation, a nonprofit supporting aviation-related efforts, including scholarships for aspiring pilots.

House also highlighted the critical support of the event’s sponsors in making Run the Runway possible. In addition to encouraging public engagement with the local airport, the event aims to bring attention to the airport's role in the county.

The race will feature nine overall categories for awards, recognizing the three fastest male and female runners in each age group.

For individuals interested in joining, organizers note that the event offers an unforgettable opportunity to connect with both the local aviation community and fellow residents, all while supporting a good cause.
