The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office will hold a drug take-back event this Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot at 1025 Highway 62 East in Mountain Home. Residents are encouraged to bring any expired or unneeded medications for safe disposal, with no questions asked. Deputies will be present to assist during the event.
This local effort is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) 31st National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, which will take place across the nation during the same hours with the participation of over 4,300 law enforcement agencies. Since the program's inception in 2010, the DEA reports that more than 20 million pounds of unneeded medications have been collected and safely removed from homes in the United States. The program is aimed at reducing the risk of addictive medications being misused or falling into the wrong hands.
For those unable to attend Saturday's event, the DEA offers additional disposal options. Residents can visit DEATakeBack.com to find locations, including pharmacies and police departments, that accept medications for disposal year-round.
