The Jonesboro City Council has declined a private club permit application for a proposed restaurant near the Jonesboro Math and Science Magnet School in north Jonesboro.
In a 6-5 vote during its meeting, the council rejected the ordinance that would have allowed the permit for the establishment located at 2740 N. Church St., according to a livestream of the meeting.
If approved, the 141 Prime Restaurant would have offered a menu of steaks, sandwiches, seafood, appetizers, and additional items, as detailed in city documents.
The proposal drew mixed feedback from residents. A dozen community members addressed the council, with several voicing concerns about the ordinance and its implications, while others expressed support for the measure.
In other business, the council advanced an ordinance aiming to restrict camping in city parks to specifically designated areas. The ordinance passed its second of three required readings.
No further action was taken on the restaurant permit during the meeting.
