JONESBORO, Ark. — A woman has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly chasing another person with a hammer during an argument over missing shoes on Oct. 17 at the Garden Manor Apartments.

Shaniquia Taylor is facing allegations of aggravated assault, a Class D felony, and refusal to submit to arrest, a Class B misdemeanor, according to court records from her first appearance.

According to a probable cause affidavit dated Oct. 19, officers responded to a reported disturbance at the apartment complex. Witnesses told police Taylor had chased the victim outside while wielding a hammer.

The victim told authorities she confronted Taylor, believing Taylor had taken her shoes from her apartment. Taylor allegedly responded by chasing the victim and attempting to strike her with the hammer, the affidavit states. The document does not note any injuries or report that the victim was struck.

Police said that when they approached Taylor to take her into custody outside her residence, she resisted their attempts to handcuff her. After a brief struggle, officers were able to secure her in handcuffs, according to the affidavit.

A judge set Taylor’s bond at $20,000 cash or surety on Oct. 19, and her next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 at the Craighead County Courthouse in Jonesboro.

The charges have not been proven in court, and Taylor remains innocent until proven guilty.
