Arkansas' seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady at 3.9% in September, unchanged from August, state officials announced Tuesday.
The Arkansas Department of Commerce, in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, reported that the state’s civilian labor force grew by 1,168 in September, with 1,902 more Arkansans finding employment. Meanwhile, unemployment in the state has declined for the eighth straight month, reflecting ongoing improvement in local job markets.
Sector-by-sector data showed that the government sector experienced the largest job gains, adding more than 10,500 positions. Private education and health services followed, with an increase of over 3,600 jobs. On the other hand, the leisure and hospitality sector saw a seasonal decline, losing 1,900 positions during the month.
Year-over-year comparisons highlighted broader progress in the state's employment landscape. Officials noted that 20,642 more Arkansans are employed this September compared to the same period last year. The number of individuals unemployed and actively seeking work has also fallen significantly.
While Arkansas’ unemployment rate held steady, the national unemployment rate ticked upward, rising from 4.1% in August to 4.2% in September.
The Department of Commerce continues its efforts to monitor economic activity and support workforce development statewide.
