A 76-year-old Paragould man is facing drug and firearm charges after law enforcement reported finding methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and firearms during a search of his residence.

According to an arrest affidavit, officers with the Paragould Police Department’s vice unit conducted a probation search on Oct. 15 at a home on West Kingshighway. During the initial search, police discovered multiple glass smoking pipes and a plate with suspected methamphetamine in common areas of the house, Investigator Hunter De Sesso stated in the affidavit.

Andrew Kelly, the suspect, was observed leaving a room that investigators said contained a methamphetamine smoking pipe, according to the affidavit.

Following these findings, investigators obtained a search warrant to conduct a more thorough examination of the residence. That search uncovered two firearms, additional drug paraphernalia, and quantities of suspected methamphetamine and marijuana, the affidavit states.

Kelly faces charges including one count of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, a Class Y felony; possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony; possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the affidavit, the felony drug charge pertains to less than 2 grams of methamphetamine, while the misdemeanor drug charge involves a Schedule VI substance, identified as marijuana, weighing less than 4 ounces.

Greene County District Court Judge Curtis Hitt reviewed the case on Oct. 16, found probable cause for Kelly’s arrest, and set his bond at $75,000 cash or surety. If released on bond, Kelly is required to remain law-abiding and is prohibited from possessing any weapons.

As of publication, Kelly is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
