HOXIE, Ark. — A referee who experienced a heart attack during a game in Hoxie on Friday night is crediting the quick actions of several individuals for saving his life.

Travis Woodruff, who was officiating when the medical emergency occurred, shared on Monday that he is feeling better and gave permission to share his story. In a message posted on Facebook, Woodruff expressed deep gratitude to members of the Hoxie community and emergency responders who came to his aid.

Woodruff specifically thanked the Hoxie head coach who noticed something was wrong, a trainer, several community members who assisted him, and emergency medical personnel. He also expressed appreciation for the Hoxie School District for its support.

“I truly believe I wouldn’t be here today without all of you,” Woodruff shared in his post. “Your quick actions helped keep me on this earth, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”

In addition, Woodruff praised the medical team at NEA Baptist hospital for their care and acknowledged the many prayers, messages, calls, and visits he has received during his recovery.

“Your love and support mean more than words can express,” he wrote.

Woodruff opened his message by thanking God for giving him another chance at life and emphasized his gratitude for being able to remain with his family.

“God is good, and I’m blessed to still be here with my family,” Woodruff wrote. “I love y’all, and I’ll never forget what the Hoxie community did for me.”

The heartfelt note has drawn attention to the importance of community support and swift responses in life-threatening situations.
