The second day of the filing period for upcoming municipal elections saw ten candidates submit paperwork for races in Baxter and Marion Counties.
In Mountain Home, City Attorney Roger Morgan filed for re-election, seeking another term in office. Billy Thompson also filed to run for Ward 1, Position 2 on the city council.
In Cotter, Wesley Miner filed to challenge for the Ward 1, Position 2 city council seat. Two incumbents also filed for re-election in Cotter: Linda McCarthy, who holds the Ward 2, Position 2 seat, and Mertice Kray, the incumbent for Ward 3, Position 2.
Gassville saw a contested race develop for the Ward 1, Position 2 city council seat. Ben Frost filed his candidacy on Thursday, joining Michael Fouts, who had already announced his intention to run. Additionally, incumbent Ralph Bird filed to retain his seat representing Ward 3, Position 2.
In Yellville, incumbent Lorna Goodwin submitted paperwork seeking another term on the city council. Meanwhile, in Pyatt, Murl Manning, a current member of the city council, also filed for re-election.
The filing period for municipal candidates in Arkansas closes at noon on August 5. The municipal election will take place on November 3 as part of the state’s general election.
