A Jonesboro man was arrested Friday in connection with a shooting that left a 17-year-old with a minor injury, the Jonesboro Police Department confirmed through a report and jail records.
Jakarius Lamont Clay, 20, was taken into custody on October 16 on allegations of first-degree battery and nonpayment of fines. Jail records reflect his arrest date and list him as one of three individuals detained in connection with the incident.
The shooting occurred on Westwood Drive between 4:30 and 4:35 p.m. on October 16. According to the incident summary, suspects fired a handgun at people while driving away from the area. Witness statements indicated that numerous shots were heard and that a red pickup truck fled the scene at a high rate of speed. Individuals on-site also reported believing that someone inside a nearby residence might have been hit.
When officers arrived at the residence, one reportedly saw a man in the backyard quickly move out of sight after noticing police. Two men later exited the front of the house, according to the police narrative. A bullet and a bullet fragment were recovered from Westwood Drive as evidence, alongside two 9 mm handguns—a Smith & Wesson Shield and a Taurus G3—that were seized during the investigation.
The 17-year-old’s injury was described in police reports as a laceration caused by a bullet grazing his left ankle. The injury was classified as minor.
Police listed additional offenses under investigation, including aggravated assault and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident. Reports also noted that another adult and a juvenile were arrested, although most investigative details were redacted in the copy reviewed.
As of Friday, no bond had been set for Clay. Charging decisions in the case will be made by the prosecuting attorney. Updates are expected following the suspect’s upcoming first appearance before a judge, known as an 8.1 hearing.
