A 36-year-old Ash Flat man was arrested early Saturday morning following a traffic stop that resulted in multiple charges, including drug possession and driving while intoxicated.
According to authorities, Kirk Klayton Desmedt was pulled over on October 17 for an alleged traffic violation. Investigators reportedly discovered evidence during the stop that led to additional charges. Desmedt now faces allegations of speeding, operating an unsafe vehicle with defective equipment, possessing a controlled substance—listed as Schedule I or II methamphetamine or cocaine—driving while intoxicated on drugs, and refusing a chemical test.
Desmedt was taken to the Sharp County Detention Center, where he is being held awaiting a bond hearing and future court date. Further details about the circumstances of the traffic stop or the investigation have not been released.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office continues to handle the case.
