An Independence County man has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder following an investigation into the deaths of two women whose bodies were found decomposing in a residence last year.

Timothy John Neal, 39, was charged after an inquiry led by the Independence County Sheriff’s Department and the Arkansas State Police. According to court filings, both women died from blunt force trauma to the head. The findings were confirmed by autopsies conducted at the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.

Neal is being held in the Independence County Detention Center on a $1 million bond. The first-degree murder charges are classified as Class Y felonies, the most serious charge under Arkansas law outside of capital offenses.

Details surrounding the timeline of the women's deaths and their discovery have not been disclosed by authorities. The investigation has been ongoing since the initial discovery of the remains in 2022.

As of now, Neal’s case is making its way through the judicial process, and additional updates will depend on court proceedings. First-degree murder charges in Arkansas carry the possibility of life in prison upon conviction.
