JONESBORO, Ark. — Best Buy has officially returned to Jonesboro after a six-year absence. The company marked the grand opening of its new location in Highland Square on Thursday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by local officials, employees, and community members.
The new store, located at 2010 South Caraway Road, is just a mile away from the original site at Turtle Creek Mall, which closed after sustaining significant damage from an EF-3 tornado in 2020. Throngs of customers gathered outside the store, accompanied by food trucks, tents set up by Jonesboro police, and local leadership celebrating the milestone.
Speakers included Jonesboro Mayor Harold Copenhaver and Best Buy CEO Jason Bonfig. Bonfig emphasized the company’s dedication to reconnecting with the Jonesboro community and delivering an enhanced shopping experience.
“We want to just be part of the community the way that we were before,” Bonfig said. “So, we’re bringing it back. It’s a brand-new store. It has the latest and greatest of everything that we’ve been able to do.”
The store features a wide array of technology products, including smartphones, tablets, televisions, and household appliances like washers, dryers, and refrigerators. Bonfig highlighted the importance of being immersed in the community, adding that many employees at the new store have strong ties to the Jonesboro area.
“We have a tremendous amount of employees that are part of this community and are so excited to be able to bring the Best Buy excitement back,” he said. “And that is really what we do. We want to make your life better with technology.”
The opening of the new location not only restores a major retail presence in Jonesboro but also reflects the city’s recovery and growth since the tornado that originally forced the store’s closure.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce.
