Art and music will take over downtown Batesville this Saturday, October 17, as the Batesville Area Arts Council hosts its 10th annual Artoberfest from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event will feature a range of local artists, live demonstrations, musical performances, and family-friendly activities.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest, which invites participants to showcase their creativity under the theme of “Halloween Movies.” The contest is open to students, families, teachers, and community groups, with divisions based on age and grade level. The Junior High through College division will compete from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the Kindergarten through 6th Grade division will participate from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Trophies will be awarded to top entries in each category, and pre-registration is required. Registration forms and contest rules can be found online at batesvilleareaartscouncil.org/artoberfest.
Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy performances by regional musicians, including Ed Casper, Whitt Meitzen, Luke Middleton, and Trevor Graddy. Visual artists and sculptors will hold live demonstrations, showcasing their talents and engaging with the community.
Artoberfest is presented with the support of Citizens Bank and additional sponsorship from local businesses including Bad Boy Mowers, Lyon College, Bank of Cave City, First Community Bank, FARCO, Merchants & Planters Bank, Rawk Imprinting, Rich Realty, and Weichert Realtors – The Property Shop.
