Every fourth-grade student in Baxter County is set to participate in a hands-on safety education event at the first Baxter County Safety Day, scheduled for Thursday, November 12. The program, designed to teach children how to stay safe around everyday hazards, will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Baxter County Fairgrounds, located at 1507 Fairgrounds Drive in Mountain Home.

The event is organized through the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day program and hosted locally by Baxter County Extension 4-H, the Baxter County Office of Emergency Management, and the Baxter County Conservation District. Students from Norfork, Cotter, Hackler Intermediate, and Mountain Home Christian Academy will attend, rotating through various safety stations in 15-minute intervals.

Planned topics include ATV safety, firearm safety, chemical awareness, lawnmower and PTO (power take-off) safety, and tree stand safety. Additional sessions will cover electrical safety, 911 education, and emergency preparedness. The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, local EMS, and Air Evac staff will lead a “first on the scene” session, while students will also have an opportunity to watch a K-9 demonstration.

Participants will receive lunch, snacks, and a take-home bag as part of the program.
