Arkansas residents can take advantage of the state’s annual tax-free weekend this Saturday and Sunday, August 1-2. From 12:01 a.m. Saturday until 11:59 p.m. Sunday, eligible purchases will be exempt from the state’s 6.5% sales tax and local sales taxes.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) announced that the tax holiday applies to a wide range of items, including school clothes, electronics, and office supplies. Items purchased online also qualify as long as the transaction takes place within the two-day window and the products are shipped to an Arkansas address.

“This holiday provides a great opportunity to save money on back-to-school shopping,” said DFA Secretary Jim Hudson. “However, we want to be sure Arkansans are aware of the broader savings available. For example, a business planning on upgrading its laptops or tablets can find significant savings this weekend.”

Among the eligible categories are clothing, school and office supplies, and certain electronics, such as laptops and tablets. A full list of qualifying items can be found on the DFA’s website.

The department also reminds Arkansans that many state services, such as renewing vehicle tags, updating addresses, ordering replacement driver’s licenses, and paying property taxes, can be completed online. Additional resources are available on the DFA website.

Shoppers are encouraged to plan ahead for the tax holiday to maximize savings on approved items in-store or through online retail platforms.
