Mountain Home High School’s tennis team made a strong showing at the 5A State Tennis Tournament, with athletes competing in singles and doubles events across two days. The tournament concluded Tuesday afternoon.

In the boys' singles bracket, Mountain Home’s Oakley Recktenwald delivered an exceptional performance. In the semifinals, he defeated Behar of Maumelle in straight sets, winning 6-1, 6-2. Recktenwald then advanced to the championship match, where he faced Hyneman of Valley View. Once again, Recktenwald asserted his dominance, securing the 5A Singles Title with scores of 6-2, 6-3. His efforts helped the Bombers earn enough points to secure the runner-up spot in the overall team standings.

In girls’ doubles, Mountain Home was represented by the duo of Berkley Decker and Nicola Talbot. The pair took on Laduke and Cleveland from Hot Springs Lakeside in the semifinals. With a commanding performance, Decker and Talbot triumphed in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-3, advancing to the finals.

In the championship match, Decker and Talbot faced Kate Calhoon and Grace Hyneman of Valley View. After dropping the first set 6-2, the Mountain Home team rallied in the second set, winning 6-4 to force a decisive third set. However, Calhoon and Hyneman claimed the championship with a 6-3 victory in the final set. Decker and Talbot placed second in the 5A doubles competition.

With their strong finishes, Recktenwald, Decker, and Talbot have earned spots in the overall state tournament, which will be held next week.

While Mountain Home’s boys’ team finished as runners-up in the 5A state standings, the girls’ team missed the title of team runner-up by a narrow margin.
