The Norfork High School culinary team has claimed the regional championship at the Arkansas ProStart Competition, showcasing their expertise in cooking and restaurant management under competitive conditions.

The team, consisting of students Jovee Webster, Phineas Bitting, and Adelynn Lubbock, impressed judges with a sophisticated menu. Their winning dishes included cream cheese and jalapeno stuffed, bacon-wrapped quail topped with pepper jelly, garlic-whipped mashed potatoes, and marinated asparagus with cherry tomatoes garnished with parmesan and basil.

With their regional victory, the team will now prepare to compete in the state finals, scheduled for November.

The Arkansas ProStart Competition is part of a two-year high school program designed to provide students with an in-depth introduction to the culinary arts and restaurant management industries. Participants receive classroom instruction, hands-on culinary practice, and real-world experience to help them build skills and consider careers in hospitality and food service.

Students who complete the ProStart program can earn the ProStart National Certificate of Achievement by passing two national exams, demonstrating mastery of core skills, and completing 400 hours of mentored work experience within the hospitality industry.
