A Baxter County man has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly fleeing law enforcement during a high-speed pursuit on Highway 201 North. Authorities say 58-year-old Terry Lee Stone, of rural Mountain Home, admitted he did not stop for blue lights because he was "in a hurry."
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Baxter County Sheriff's Office, the incident began when a deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 85 miles per hour on Highway 201 North. The deputy initiated a U-turn and activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. Stone reportedly continued driving and eluded the deputy, who pursued the vehicle toward the Missouri state line without making contact.
Later that day, deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the pursuit parked at a business on Highway 201 North. Employees at the business confirmed the car belonged to Stone, and a co-worker revealed that Stone had been bragging about evading law enforcement. The witnesses also noted that Stone had since left the scene in a flatbed truck and provided deputies with directions to his residence.
Deputies proceeded to Stone's property, where they found the flatbed truck and three men standing nearby. The deputy involved in the initial pursuit identified Stone as the driver. When questioned about why he failed to stop, Stone allegedly replied that he was "in a hurry."
Deputies reportedly asked Stone multiple times to step off the flatbed truck, but he refused to comply. Officers physically guided him to the ground before taking him into custody. During a search at the jail, authorities reportedly found a pipe in Stone's pocket and a socket containing a burnt substance suspected to be marijuana.
Stone is now facing one felony charge of fleeing and three misdemeanors, including possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, and reckless driving. He was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond.
