Salem Elementary School teacher Becky Turnbough has been named one of 30 educators statewide to participate in the Arkansas Excellence in Teaching Fellowship, a prestigious program recognizing outstanding teaching in Arkansas public schools.

Turnbough, who teaches fifth grade English language arts, math, science, and social studies, will take part in the nine-month fellowship program designed to celebrate top-performing teachers and elevate the public’s understanding of excellent teaching and leadership. The program is now in its second year.

Participants in the fellowship receive a $1,500 stipend and engage in a series of virtual meetings aimed at strengthening their professional practice and fostering connections with other high-achieving educators across the state. Fellows are also provided training on how to share their experiences and insights with the public, helping to highlight the work of the Merit Teacher Incentive Fund, an initiative under the LEARNS Act that rewards exceptional Arkansas educators.

The Arkansas Excellence in Teaching Fellowship is focused on promoting the importance of high-quality teaching while providing recognition and professional development opportunities to some of the state’s most effective educators.
