JONESBORO, Ark. — Dierksen Hospice hosted its seventh annual Senior Day on Tuesday, offering local seniors an opportunity for fellowship, entertainment, and relaxation.

The event included games such as bingo, live music, snow cones, shopping opportunities, and a variety of vendors providing giveaways. Community sponsors such as Cornerstone contributed to the festivities, offering refreshments like lemonade.

Allison Lampkin, program director for Dierksen Hospice, described the day as a highlight for attendees, including patients and seniors from local care facilities.

“We do the big giveaways. We draw for names. We’ve got the DJ out. We’ve got Kona Ice. Cornerstone has been a sponsor for our lemonade. So we’ve got all the things, anything that you can think of, games that are going on inside. So, it’s a great time. People love it,” Lampkin said.

She explained that for many participants, Senior Day provides a rare opportunity to socialize and enjoy outdoor activities.

“They come from all over. And really, you know, a lot of them are there in the facilities. They don’t get a lot of opportunities to come out. And so this is their opportunity to come out, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy fellowship, have some food, and just dance and have a good time,” she said.

Lampkin noted that caring for a sick loved one often poses emotional challenges for families, and events like Senior Day aim to offer moments of joy and connection.

Dierksen Hospice plans to continue hosting the event annually as part of its mission to serve the community and brighten the lives of local seniors.
