Arkansas drivers continue to face elevated gasoline prices despite national averages holding steady in recent days.
According to the most recent AAA Arkansas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $3.77. This marks a slight two-cent drop from last week but still reflects a significant 98-cent increase compared to this time last year.
Within the state, drivers in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metropolitan area are experiencing the highest prices, with an average of $3.82 per gallon. The lowest average is reported in Hot Springs, where prices stand at $3.67 per gallon.
Nationally, the average price for regular unleaded has remained steady at $4.09 over the past week. Although the national rate shows stability, it remains much higher than the prices seen one year ago.
Traditionally, fuel prices tend to ease in August as families return from summer travel, but recent market pressures have prevented significant declines. Arkansas continues to rank among the states with lower average gas prices nationwide, far below California’s $5.64 per gallon and Hawaii’s $5.46. By contrast, Indiana and Texas are reporting some of the lowest national averages, at $3.56 and $3.64, respectively.
Despite marginal decreases, Arkansas drivers will likely find limited relief at the pump in the weeks ahead.
