A popular holiday program in Lawrence County has announced a new name for the 2026 season. The initiative formerly known as the 'LC Angel Tree' will now be called 'Lawrence County Christmas Cheer.' Organizers explained the change was necessary after discovering the previous name was trademarked. Program operations, however, will remain the same as in prior years.
Applications for families in need will be available beginning November 2, 2026. Parents can pick up forms at the Lawrence County Department of Health and Human Services or the Lawrence County Housing Agency. Completed applications must be returned by December 4, 2026.
After the application window closes, community members can support the program by selecting the name of a child in need from the Lawrence County Clerk's Office at the courthouse. Gifts for those children must then be returned to the Lawrence County Community Center, located near the library, by December 7, 2026.
Families receiving support will be able to pick up the donated gifts on December 17, 2026, starting at 9 a.m.
According to organizers, Lawrence County residents have a long-standing tradition of supporting this holiday effort to ensure local children experience the joy of receiving gifts during the season. Community involvement, including both donations and volunteers, is critical to the program’s success.
Those interested in volunteering to assist with the program are encouraged to contact organizers directly.
