JONESBORO, Ark. — A routine traffic stop in Jonesboro led to the discovery of approximately 57 grams of suspected methamphetamine and the arrest of a local man, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Craighead County.

Kenneth Vann is facing multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine or cocaine in an amount greater than 10 grams but less than 200 grams, a Class B felony. Court records indicate he also faces charges of obstructing governmental operations, a Class C misdemeanor, and a traffic violation for improper headlights.

Jonesboro Police Officer Miller initiated the stop on the evening of Oct. 9 near the intersection of East Highland Drive and Race Street. According to the affidavit, the white Chevrolet Malibu driven by Vann had a broken headlight and expired registration dating back to July.

During the stop, Miller observed Vann making a motion described as wiping his hands on his shorts, the affidavit states. Vann, who was under a suspended imposition of sentence, was removed from the vehicle while officers conducted a search.

Between the center console and the driver’s seat, investigators reported finding a spilled crystalline substance. The substance, which was also found in a shopping bag in the vehicle, weighed approximately 57 grams and field-tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

After his arrest, officers attempted to locate Vann’s residence to conduct a search in connection with his suspended sentence. The affidavit states Vann initially provided the address of a vacant property. When he gave a second address, the residents there told investigators they did not know him and that he did not live at that location.

Vann was transported to the Craighead County Detention Center, where he remains in custody pending further proceedings. During his first court appearance on Oct. 12, Judge Thomas Fowler found probable cause to detain him. The judge set bond at $75,000 cash or surety, noting two prior failures to appear in court.

Vann’s next scheduled court appearance is on Dec. 16 at 8:30 a.m. at the Craighead County Courthouse.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
