A three-hour standoff in Pocahontas concluded Tuesday after law enforcement deployed tear gas to apprehend a man who had barricaded himself inside a home on Heather Drive. According to authorities, Billy Adamson, 55, was taken into custody after the incident. No injuries were reported.
The Pocahontas Police Department initially responded to a domestic disturbance call at the residence. Upon arrival, officers made contact with Adamson, who then barricaded himself inside. Police said Adamson claimed to have weapons and made statements that he would not surrender peacefully, warning officers that he "wasn’t coming out alive."
After several hours of negotiations proved unsuccessful, authorities decided to deploy tear gas to end the standoff. Adamson was apprehended immediately after the gas was deployed. He was evaluated by medical personnel at the scene before being transported to the Randolph County Detention Center.
The operation involved a coordinated response from multiple agencies, including the Pocahontas Police Department, Pocahontas Fire Department, ProMed Ambulance, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, the 3rd Judicial Drug Task Force, and the Arkansas State Police.
No further information about potential charges or court proceedings was immediately released.
