The Izard County Cougars delivered a decisive 56-0 victory against Johnson County Westside on Friday night, highlighted by an explosive offense led by quarterback Kane Johnson.
The Cougars struck early in the game when Johnson connected with Brogan Pospisil on a 40-yard touchdown pass to take an initial 6-0 lead. Payton Thompson extended the lead to 12-0 with a 3-yard touchdown run, followed by a 47-yard scoring pass from Johnson to James Down. Johnson converted a two-point run to widen the lead to 18-0.
Momentum continued on Izard County’s next possession as Johnson threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Down and followed it up with a successful two-point conversion throw to William Horton to bring the score to 26-0. Just before halftime, Johnson found Pospisil again, this time on a 35-yard touchdown pass, and completed the two-point conversion to Pospisil, giving the Cougars a 34-0 advantage by the break.
In the third quarter, Johnson remained dominant, connecting with Down for a 25-yard touchdown. Johnson then ran in the two-point conversion himself, extending the lead to 42-0. Later in the game, Johnson and Down teamed up again on a 49-yard touchdown pass, and Thompson added a two-point run to push the scoreboard to 50-0.
The Cougars capped their commanding performance in the fourth quarter with an 8-yard touchdown run by Nick Williams to seal the 56-0 shutout.
In other area football results, Melbourne defeated Mountain View 23-0, Logan-Rogersville edged out West Plains 36-30, Thayer snapped Ava’s winning streak with a 22-13 victory, and Quitman overpowered Yellville-Summit 48-12. Newport shut out Riverview 49-0, Willow Springs narrowly topped Houston 14-13, and Forsyth fell to Fair Grove 47-0.
