A Gravette man charged with capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Benton County has pleaded not guilty in court.

Hunter Anderson, 21, was arrested on Aug. 13 after authorities say he fatally shot 20-year-old Triton King at a residence in Sulphur Springs. According to investigators, Anderson fled the scene in a vehicle and was apprehended just across the Arkansas-Missouri border in McDonald County. He was transferred to the Benton County Detention Center on Aug. 15 and remains in custody on a $500,000 bond as of Oct. 9, based on jail booking records.

Anderson faces two felony charges: capital murder and possession of firearms by certain persons. He entered a not guilty plea during his Oct. 8 arraignment in Benton County Circuit Court. A follow-up omnibus hearing is scheduled for Nov. 16, court records indicate.

Court documents outline the details of the case: Investigators recovered 13 shell casings from the scene of the incident, which occurred in a residence with multiple people present. Four witnesses interviewed separately by law enforcement identified Anderson as the shooter.

Anderson reportedly disclosed to investigators where he had discarded the firearm used in the shooting. Authorities located the weapon in a pond based on his directions, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

In addition to the capital murder charge, Anderson is accused of possessing firearms unlawfully. The affidavit states that he was prohibited from owning firearms due to prior felony charges. Those previous charges include theft of property, domestic battering in the third degree, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while intoxicated, and tampering with a motor vehicle.

The case remains under investigation, and court proceedings are ongoing.
