The Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center, a 421-acre site in Yellville featuring six miles of trails, a fishing pond, and a 3D archery and trap range, is hosting several family-oriented events throughout October.

One highlight is the special catch-and-keep fishing opportunity at the normally catch-and-release pond. Each Saturday in October, anglers with a valid Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) fishing license will be permitted to catch and keep up to five fish, adhering to state catfish regulations.

For shooting enthusiasts, the center is offering access to its archery and trap ranges on October 10 and October 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Participants must register in advance via the Fred Berry Crooked Creek website. The cost per round is $5, or attendees can purchase a punch card for $45, which covers ten rounds. Shooters and archers are required to check in at the office before beginning.

Another featured event is a beginner-focused dutch-oven cooking class on October 24, led by Heather Pittman, the nature center's facilities manager. As part of the session, participants will learn to prepare Pittman’s signature "Cowboy Spaghetti." Registration is required for the class, which can be completed through the AGFC website by selecting “Culinary” under the Nature Center links or by contacting Pittman directly at 870-207-4387.

For additional details or to sign up for any event, forms are available on the Fred Berry Crooked Creek Nature Center page through the AGFC website.
