A Fulton County teacher has been selected for a prestigious statewide teaching fellowship. Becky Turnbough, who teaches fifth-grade English language arts, math, science, and social studies in Salem, is among 30 educators chosen for the Arkansas Excellence in Teaching Fellowship program.

Now in its second year, the nine-month fellowship honors some of Arkansas’s top-performing educators. The program, part of the LEARNS initiative, rewards outstanding teaching and leadership while increasing public awareness of the state’s Merit Teacher Incentive Fund. Fellows receive a $1,500 stipend and participate in virtual meetings aimed at enhancing their professional skills, fostering collaboration with other educators, and sharing their experiences with the public.

Turnbough, recognized in 2025 as the Salem Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year, joins a select group of teachers participating in the program. In addition to the stipend and training, fellows work to elevate understanding of effective teaching practices and encourage educational excellence across Arkansas.
