The 11th annual Coach Don Webb Memorial Fishing Derby kicked off at 9 a.m. today at McCabe Park in Mountain Home, offering a morning of fishing fun for youth ages 15 and under. Anglers are required to bring their own fishing poles, but bait is provided at no cost. The event runs until noon.
Several prizes will be awarded, and participants are encouraged to sign up at the event to be eligible. Youth may keep the fish they catch, provided they adhere to Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations regarding the number of catfish that can be retained.
The fishing derby, a longstanding tradition, was renamed in honor of Coach Don Webb following a proclamation by Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams and the City Council. Webb, a beloved community figure, is remembered for his contributions to local youth and outdoor activities.
Andrew McNair, Mountain Home’s Outdoor Recreation Program Coordinator, noted the significant turnout expected for this year’s event. Officials anticipate participation from 150 to 250 young anglers. The derby is completely free to attend and includes complimentary hot dogs alongside the fishing activities.
No pre-registration is required, making it easy for families to join in on the fun. The event is organized to provide children and teenagers a chance to enjoy outdoor recreation while celebrating the legacy of a cherished local leader.
