The Mountain Home Bombers capitalized on second-half turnovers by Little Rock Southwest to secure a 35-7 road victory Friday night, advancing their record to 5-1 overall and 3-0 in 6A-West conference play.
Easton Shrable led the Bombers’ scoring efforts, starting with a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. Shrable’s rush was set up by a 23-yard carry of his own and a 21-yard quarterback keeper by Connor Gentry. Isaac Ballard added the extra point to give Mountain Home a 7-0 advantage with 2:52 left in the opening quarter.
Following a punt by Little Rock Southwest, Shrable found an opening and sprinted 60 yards for his second touchdown with just 40 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Ballard’s extra point extended the Bombers’ lead to 14-0.
The Gryphons managed to respond in the second quarter with a four-yard touchdown run, narrowing the score to 14-7 with 3:56 left in the half. The score remained unchanged going into halftime.
Mountain Home took control in the second half, beginning with a drive in the third quarter that included a 20-yard pass from Gentry to Kanye Worman and a 24-yard carry by Shrable. Gentry finished the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run at the 5:38 mark. Ballard’s extra point pushed the Bombers ahead 21-7.
Shrable added another 1-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Ballard’s reliable kicking increased the lead to 28-7 with 11:54 remaining. The Bombers then leaned on their defense to seal the game. Will Rauls intercepted a Gryphon pass, which was negated by a penalty, but teammate Jake Thomas picked off another pass later in the fourth quarter. That turnover led to Gentry’s second 1-yard touchdown run of the night. Ballard’s extra-point kick brought the final score to 35-7 with just over two minutes to play.
Mountain Home will travel to Siloam Springs next week for another 6A-West matchup, as the Bombers look to continue their winning streak in conference play.
