The Mountain Home Bombers will travel to Little Rock on Friday night to face the Little Rock Southwest Gryphons, marking the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The Bombers, currently holding a 4-1 record, are making their second trip of the season to the state capital, while the Gryphons seek to improve a challenging campaign.
Little Rock Southwest High School is one of Arkansas's newest schools, established in 2020 following the consolidation of McClellan, J.A. Fair, and part of Hall High School in Little Rock. Although the Bombers have not played the Gryphons before, their history against the schools that now make up Southwest stands at a combined 9-13.
Mountain Home Head Coach Steve Ary is preparing his team for a tough contest, noting that the Gryphons are better than their record suggests. Ary credits his team's success so far to versatility, with the Bombers finding multiple ways to secure victories. As the season reaches its midpoint, Ary has also focused on assigning players to specific roles on either offense or defense, hoping this strategy will benefit the Bombers over the long term.
Last week’s homecoming win featured a standout performance from senior Gus Wilber, who was crowned homecoming king, scored two touchdown receptions, and recorded an interception.
Kickoff at Gryphon Stadium in Little Rock is scheduled for 7 p.m., with pregame coverage beginning at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7, as well as the Bomber Sports Network on YouTube, mhbombersports.com, and the Mountain Home Athletics app.
