An Oklahoma man has been arrested in Mountain View after allegedly returning to a local McDonald’s from which he was previously banned, threatening officers and bystanders during the incident.
George David Barnett, 20, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, faces charges of terroristic threatening, a Class D felony; resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor; and criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, both Class C misdemeanors. His bond has been set at $100,000.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mountain View police responded to a trespassing complaint at the McDonald’s and Circle K parking lot on East Main Street around 4:25 p.m. Tuesday. Earlier that day, a police sergeant had ordered Barnett to leave the restaurant property and not return.
Officer Zachary Seal arrived at the scene and spotted Barnett walking at the edge of the parking lot. Police say Barnett initially complied with orders to stop, throwing his backpack to the ground when informed he was under arrest. However, as Officer Seal prepared to search him, Barnett allegedly used a racial slur and threatened a bystander who had come forward to inform police about the earlier incident.
The affidavit states Barnett then pulled away from Officer Seal and lunged at the bystander. Seal and Officer Adam Hergert restrained Barnett, taking him to the ground after he resisted arrest. Police allege Barnett ignored commands, fought with officers, and continued to use racial slurs and make threats. They state Barnett repeatedly threatened to kill both the bystander and the officers, adding that he said he would return to harm the bystander. No injuries to Barnett were reported during the arrest.
While being transported to the Stone County Detention Center, Barnett allegedly claimed that members of his "Aryan race brothers" would come to Mountain View and kill the officers, according to the affidavit. Police also say he remained combative upon arriving at the jail.
Court documents note Barnett’s prior arrest on September 27, when police charged him with disorderly conduct and misdemeanor terroristic threatening after receiving a report of a man shouting obscenities and threatening to kill officers and others while standing on a sidewalk.
Officers wore body cameras during Tuesday’s incident, according to the report.
