The Mountain View Yellowjackets are gearing up for a challenging 3A-2 conference matchup this week as they welcome the Melbourne Bearkatz. The Yellowjackets will take the field with momentum following a dominant 42-0 victory over Marshall last week.
Mountain View showcased a strong rushing performance in the win, tallying an impressive 494 yards on the ground. Leading the charge was George Rector, who racked up 181 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns. Head coach Curtis Sims praised his team’s ground game from last week but acknowledged the uphill battle they face against Melbourne.
Melbourne enters the game fresh off a tight 14-8 conference victory against Salem. According to Sims, one of the Bearkatz's key strengths lies in their passing game, which poses a critical test for Mountain View’s secondary. He emphasized the need for disciplined defense to counter Melbourne’s aerial attack.
Offensively, Sims highlighted several players who are expected to lead the Yellowjackets' attack. Alongside Rector, Alaska McDaniels and Micah Moore are set to contribute on the ground, with Davis also playing a vital role in Mountain View’s strategy.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday at Mountain View, where the Yellowjackets will look to secure another conference victory and continue their push in the competitive 3A-2 standings.
