Mountain Home native Sean Bailey is set to star in the Netflix series *Sheriff Justice*, a prequel to the classic 1977 film *Smokey and the Bandit*. The series, which is currently in production, is scheduled to debut in May of next year.
Bailey, who turns 51 on Thursday and graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1993, will portray the iconic character Buford T. Justice. Speaking about the new series, Bailey explained that the show will offer viewers a glimpse into the early career of Sheriff Justice, a character originally played by Jackie Gleason in the film.
Landing the role of Buford T. Justice represents a unique journey for Bailey. He has played the character for several years in a traveling tribute company, *East Bound and Down: Smokey and the Bandit Tribute*. Bailey noted that this work gave him invaluable experience, ultimately helping him secure the role in the upcoming series.
Bailey's fascination with classic television and film cars also played a part in his journey to this role. At one point, he owned a car from *The Dukes of Hazzard*, which later led to his work impersonating Buford T. Justice. From there, his tribute act gained traction, allowing him to connect with fans of the iconic film across the country.
"It’s those memorable lines that fans love to hear," Bailey said of the character’s dialogue, adding that he often gets requests, even from younger fans, to reenact some of Sheriff Justice’s famous quotes, provided their parents approve. In the original film, Justice was known for his colorful language, and Bailey shared that this aspect remains a fan favorite.
Bailey previously worked in radio for 23 years, beginning at the age of 13, including time spent at KTLO.
