The average cost of gasoline in Arkansas has remained stable over the past week, according to a report released Thursday by AAA Arkansas. The statewide average price for regular unleaded gasoline is $3.99 per gallon, the same as a week ago but $1.29 higher than this time last year.
Jonesboro drivers, however, saw a slight increase, with the average price rising four cents to $3.97 per gallon. Motorists in the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers area are paying the highest prices in the state at an average of $4.06 per gallon, while drivers in Hot Springs are paying the lowest, with an average of $3.86 per gallon.
Nationwide, gas prices have declined slightly, with the national average dropping five cents over the past week to $4.36 per gallon. However, AAA noted that this marks the first October in which the national average has surpassed $4 per gallon.
AAA compiles its gas price averages from its daily survey of fuel prices across major metropolitan areas and other locations.
