Marion County Sheriff Gregg Alexander is cautioning residents about a scam involving fraudulent jury duty calls. According to Sheriff Alexander, his office has received multiple complaints from individuals who reported being contacted by someone falsely identifying themselves as a Marion County Deputy.
The caller claims the recipient has missed jury duty and threatens legal consequences unless an unspecified fine is paid. Sheriff Alexander emphasizes that legitimate deputies from his office will not call regarding missed jury duty or demand payment of fines over the phone.
Residents are advised not to disclose any personal or financial information if they receive such a call. Instead, they should immediately hang up and report the incident to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone who suspects they have been targeted by this scam is urged to contact the sheriff's office to help authorities track and handle these fraudulent activities.
