A minor earthquake was registered in Newton County on Tuesday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The 2.1-magnitude quake was centered approximately 4.5 miles south of Jasper, which is about 19.9 miles south of Harrison. Earthquakes of this magnitude are generally not felt by most people.
According to the USGS, those near the epicenter may notice only a faint jolt, subtle rumbling, or mild vibration, particularly if the earthquake is shallow, and the individual is sitting still indoors.
The USGS encourages anyone who may have felt the quake to report their experience on its website.
