The race for mayor in Flippin saw a significant development as Mary Jane Erwin—current city treasurer and a former mayor—officially filed her candidacy to run against incumbent Mayor Heath Hogan, who is seeking a second term. Both candidates filed during the opening day of Arkansas’ municipal election filing period, which began Wednesday and concludes at noon on August 5.
In addition to the mayoral race, C. Dane Hudson entered the race for Ward 2, Position 2 on the Flippin City Council. Several incumbents have also filed for re-election, including Lacie Bettencourt for Ward 1, Position 1; Jodi Howard for Ward 1, Position 2; and Margaret Ott for Ward 2, Position 1.
Elsewhere in Marion County, Bull Shoals saw filing activity with two candidates stepping forward. Michael Howell entered the mayoral race, while Russell Meinkins filed to retain his seat as the Ward 2, Position 1 city council member.
In Pyatt, incumbent Mayor Cindy St. Clair faces a challenge from Justin Hall in the mayoral race. Shauna Barnett filed as a candidate for a city council seat.
Yellville reported one filing as Charles Pearson submitted his candidacy for Ward 2, Position 1 on the city council.
The municipal elections will take place on November 3 as part of Arkansas’ general election. More candidates may join the races before the filing deadline on August 5.
