A boil water order has been issued for a portion of the Sylamore Valley Water Association in Stone County, according to the Arkansas Department of Health (ADH).

The order, announced Wednesday, affects customers in the area of Highway 9 south of the railroad tracks. Officials stated the precautionary measure was issued due to a main break in the water system.

The ADH advises affected customers to consider the water unsafe for human consumption unless it has been brought to a rolling boil for at least one minute. Residents should also discard existing ice cubes and use boiled or bottled water when preparing new ice or cooking.

The boil order will remain in place until water safety is confirmed through bacteriological testing. The notice will be lifted once the ADH confirms the water is free of bacterial contamination and an adequate disinfectant level has been restored throughout the system.

For updates, residents are encouraged to monitor notices from the Sylamore Valley Water Association or the Arkansas Department of Health.
