The Mountain Home High School NJROTC Precision Air Rifle team opened its 2026 season in the National Precision Air Rifle League with a loss to Eldorado MCJROTC of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Competing virtually in the league's JROTC Distinguished Division, Mountain Home was defeated 2,329.8 to 2,163.6 in Week 1.
Karhys Herbert led the Bombers with a team-high score of 558.6, followed by teammates Aspen Douglas, Aaron Hale, and Aldyn Buterbaugh. Buterbaugh contributed a score of 526.2 as part of the team’s total. Eldorado’s Jamie Spoonamore recorded the match’s highest individual score with 594.0.
Matches in the league are scored using a decimal system over a 60-shot standing air rifle course. Each team’s final total reflects the combined scores of its top four shooters.
Mountain Home, under the direction of Chief Jason M. Williams, is balancing participation in the national virtual league with regional and national invitational tournaments. During their Week 2 bye, the team will travel to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Joe Sharbel Fall Classic Invitational, hosted by Montgomery Bell Academy. The event is considered one of the premier high school air rifle competitions in the country and features JROTC programs and junior marksmanship teams from across the nation in live, shoulder-to-shoulder competition.
The Bombers are coached by James Koerber.
