The Emmy Awards will move exclusively to Prime Video beginning in 2027, marking a significant departure from the event's longstanding broadcast network partnerships. The switch is part of a six-year agreement between the Television Academy and the Amazon-owned streaming service.

Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, highlighted the global reach of the new arrangement, which will make the Emmys available live in more than 200 countries without requiring a Prime Video subscription. "Television has never been more global, and the Emmys should be a celebration that the world can share," Abrego said in a statement.

The arrangement ends decades of a rotating broadcast deal among traditional networks ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC. Abrego praised these networks as "tremendous stewards of the Emmys for many years," adding that the dedicated platform on Prime Video offers an opportunity to build on the event’s legacy.

The move mirrors a broader industry shift toward streaming. In another notable decision, officials recently announced that the Oscars will begin streaming live globally on YouTube in 2029.

The streaming agreement underscores how major awards shows are adapting to changes in viewer habits as audiences increasingly consume content on digital platforms.
